STEPHEN FEARING: That's How I Walk True North
POSTED: AUGUST 10TH, 2002
Vancouver native Stephen Fearing is without question one of the finest singer-songwriters working today. From his sure and ringing acoustic guitar-playing and rich voice to an ear for a wonderfully wrought lyric and melody, the guy is quite a whiz. Try "Black Silk Gown" with its pumping rhythm and metaphors of ocean pools and darkness folding like black silk. Or perhaps his artful sketch of depression in "Me & Mr. Blue" or the tale of hopeless love in "Showbiz" - he handles them all masterfully. Working again with producer-guitarist Colin Linden at his side, this is immensely satisfying stuff.
