Album Information
We are very proud to release a 2 CD Anthology featuring 36 songs from one of Canada’s finest songwriters and storytellers. An Order of Canada recipient for his contribution of music excellence, Murray McLauchlan is truly a strong part of Canada’s rich music history. Over 140 minutes of Murray's best material including all his hits, two previously unreleased tracks, a brand new song and a track penned by the late great Warren Zevon (Carmelita). The mastering was done by Peter Moore (Bruce Cockburn/Cowboy Junkies) all from the original analogue master tapes.

“What can you say about the depth and quality of Murray’s recorded output over the years other than if you want to hear where a lot the inspiration for the roots music scene of today came from, then don’t pass by listening to “Songs From The Street”. Murray’s songs are both enlightening and inspiring,” says True North President Bernie Finkelstein.

McLauchlan is one of Canada’s finest songwriters, the disc include gem’s such as Down By The Henry Moore, Farmer’s Song, Honky Red, On The Boulevard, Whispering Rain, Try Walkin’ Away, Hard Rock Town, Shoe Shine Workin’ Song and many more classic favourites.

Murray has eighteen albums of songs to his credit and has won eleven JUNO awards as well as RPM Big Country and Toronto Music awards. In 1993, McLauchlan received The Order Of Canada.

Murray's songwriting excellence has been recognized by the presentation of SOCAN Classics Awards for his compositions Whispering Rain, Down By The Henry Moore and Farmer’s Song. Each of these songs have received over 100,000 plays on radio, making them among the most played songs in Canadian history.

Murray was the host of the national CBC radio program ‘Swinging on a Star’ for five years. With over a quarter of a million listeners every Saturday this show focused attention on the artistry of distinguished and famous writers as well as the new and upcoming.

Murray has been a pilot for both business and sport, holding a commercial license with instrument rating and endorsements for multi-engine aircraft and seaplanes. His television special Floating over Canada, in which he piloted a Cessna 185 float plane around the entire country of Canada, was recently broadcast again on U.S. public television. Canadians are very familiar with this show, having seen it on Canada day for several years running on CBC. The show has also been seen several times on PBS in the United States.

True North Records is very proud to be a part of Canadian Music royalty with this 36 song collection from one of our country’s finest.
